A spokesperson for Airbus, an important European plane producer, confirmed that the company intends to convert the world’s largest plane, into a flying casino. According to the same source, Airbus is discussing a deal with several casino operators that would provide gambling services.
“We had discussions with several customers,” marketing director for Airbus David Velupillai explained. “Of course the biggest attraction of the A380 is that it's got 50 percent more floor space than the 747. If you have to do something like that, you have got the floor space that will allow you to do this.”
Francois Chazelle, Manager of the Airbus executive and private aviation division, commented that the flying casino, with baccarat tables and all the necessary equipment, could be ready between 2012 and 2017. Although he declined to reveal the names of potential clients, Chazelle said that talks about the project are quite concrete now.
Even though Asia has experienced a gambling boom in recent years, the industry is restricted in many countries within the region. A casino in the sky would give many Asian players the opportunity to gamble in a legal way.
